[NEWS] DJ PREMIER WORKING ON NEW XTINA MUSIC

DJ PREMIER :

What else is cooking?

I just did a record with Ed Sheeran. We did some cool stuff – we were just experimenting in the studio, but it came out really good – so we got that going… I'm getting into the pop world again. I've started working with a group called Rizzle Kicks, who are very popular overseas – we did some cool stuff – and then I'm starting to work on Christina Aguilera's new stuff.

I was actually going to ask if you'd like to do more pop, as you didn't do much after Back To Basics.
I consider myself a producer, period. I'm not just a hip hop producer – I'm a producer. It doesn't matter what you bring to me, I'm gonna apply my tastes and passion for music to it – but most of it comes from me being a DJ. The fact that I DJ, that's really where I get the best focus on how to do things, because I'm very deep-rooted in being raised on music – before rap was even in existence. Because of that, I've always been up for any challenge – or what anybody ever brings me. So when Christina approached me about working on Back To Basics, I was immediately excited about doing it because I want to show that I'm beyond hip hop – even though I'll apply a hip hop flavour to it because that's what made me my name.

What was that experience like?

She let me just do me. She didn't really give me a lot of instructions. She just pretty much told me what she was looking for. And then some of it was just experimentation. She would go, ‘Ooh, I like that, lay that down’ – and I'd play it. TheThank You record, I was playing around with a friend of mine's daughter, showing her how to scratch on the turntable. She started cutting the beat on time and I said, ‘Yo, keep that going’ – and I got on a keyboard. Christina happened to walk in and go, ‘What is that?’ I'm like, ‘Oh, we're just playing around’. She goes, ‘I like that, lay it down!’ – and we put it on tape [laughs].

[NEWS] AN OPEN LETTER TO CHRISTINA AGUILERA, FROM DAVID

Dear Christina,

How I hoped to never have to go public with this, but your reluctance to embrace your true musical identity as represented by a series of misguided and utterly depressing CDs—Bionic anyone?— has really forced me to spill the beans. Let me me offer heartfelt apologies in advance for breaking your confidence and sincerely say, at the risk of sounding didactic, that I am doing this for your own good. You see, with the truth exposed you just might be forced to acknowledge that the bulk of your discography is an act of treason against the great artist you longed to be but are clearly afraid of becoming. Clearly the failure of these albums, a series of increasingly misspent efforts chasing radio trends with exponentially more lackluster results (made worse with each album’s concomitant and public announcement that the new collection “truly reflects your personal growth and authentic self,”) has not chastened you.

While I know it’s fun to be a TV star and spin around in your chair on the The Voice after six hours of hair and make-up, this strikes me as a betrayal of your tremendous early promise. For Stargayzing readers, permit me to tell the story from the beginning, which will make my motives clearer and, at the risk of sounding grandiose, might give you pause to consider that you are, in fact, standing at a creative precipice.

[NEWS] IRVING AZOFF RESIGNS FROM 'LIVE NATION' BUT WILL STILL MANAGE CHRISTINA AGUILERA

So, it looks like the almighty, powerful and influential man in music has resigned from Live Nation:
Irving Azoff, the longtime manager of the Eagles band, is resigning as chairman of concert promoter Live Nation Entertainment Inc. and selling off 1.7 million shares to Liberty Media Corp.
Azoff, 65, will continue to manage the acts that he brought to the company, including the Eagles and Christina Aguilera. Live Nation said in a statement it did not expect Azoff's departure or the restructuring to have a material impact on its operating results. (Source)
I wonder if this will hurt or help Christina Aguilera in 2013.

Update: Billboard has tallied up all sales and downloads for 'Lotus' and 'Bionic'
Aguilera is mainly TV draw these days. She reportedly is making $10 million this season on "The Voice." Aguilera's latest album, "Lotus," was released on November 13 and has sold 182,000 units and 687,000 tracks, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Her previous release, the 2010 album "Bionic," has sold 314,000 units and 1.15 million tracks to date. Aguilera has been an infrequent touring artist in recent years. Her "Back to Basics" tour in 2006-2007 grossed $48.2 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. Her 2010 "Bionic" tour was cut short in part due to poor ticket sales. (Source)

[NEWS] CHRISTINA AGUILERA'S 'SLOW DOWN BABY' AMONG MARK RONSON'S TOP 5 COLLABORATIONS

For no other reason than it’s his 37th birthday, and he’s just as London as he is New York (and therefore the perfect model of Anglophenian man) here’s a brief tapdance across Mark Ronson’s illustrious (and very collaborative) career to date:

“Slow Down Baby” – Christina Aguilera
[SMART-PHONE FRIENDLY]

It’s funny to think that Mark worked on two albums of jazz and soul influenced pop music, both boasting titles that begin “Back To…” *(Amy Winehouse "Back to Black" anyone? lol)* within the same year. Here’s his songwriting contribution to Christina Aguilera’s “Back To Basics,” from 2006: an album to which he also contributed keyboards, bass, guitar and production work.
