How I hoped to never have to go public with this, but your reluctance to embrace your true musical identity as represented by a series of misguided and utterly depressing CDs—Bionic anyone?— has really forced me to spill the beans. Let me me offer heartfelt apologies in advance for breaking your confidence and sincerely say, at the risk of sounding didactic, that I am doing this for your own good. You see, with the truth exposed you just might be forced to acknowledge that the bulk of your discography is an act of treason against the great artist you longed to be but are clearly afraid of becoming. Christina Aguilera doesn't pull any punches on her upcoming Lotus album, named in honor of — as she explained — "the unbreakable flower ... no matter the harshest of conditions, it still survives and it thrives through time."

You can see why the title appealed to her; after all, if the past few years have proven anything, it's that Aguilera is a survivor. Her much-publicized marriage to Jordan Bratman came to an end and her equally publicized Bionic album failed to match the commercial success of her previous efforts. In many ways, it seemed like her entire life was at a crossroads, but rather than cover-up and hide, she re-invented herself, joining "The Voice" and re-invigorating her career with "Moves Like Jagger." And now, she's back with a brand-new album ... and if you thought she was about to play things safe, well, then you don't know Christina Aguilera.

"I've already put out a greatest hits record, so I've been in this business for a while, and ... I'm a risk taker, that's just who I am at heart. It's who I can't help but be. It's who I always am in nature, as a person and as an artist," she told MTV News. "And with that comes hurdles and certain areas where people aren't going to get it and understand it artistically; sometimes it will go over their heads and it will not be as commercially successful.

"[And] personally, I'm someone that's always growing and evolving," she continued, "And at this point of my life, I feel that I've reached a place where I'm completely embracing everything about who I am, and I'm having more of an understanding of myself."

And based on Lotus' first single, "Your Body," Aguilera seems poised to once again regain her spot amongst the pop elite. She's not hiding from her past, or letting everything that happened in the aftermath of Bionic slow her down ... if anything, she's embracing everything, and moving forward. Fearlessly so.

[NEWS] HOW CHRISTINA AGUILERA CHANGED JUDGING OF REALITY TV MUSIC COMPETITIONS

Be a star, then you can judge.

Years from now, Christina Aguilera will be remembered for her glamour, her scandalous take on femme-pop and her Brobdingnagian voice. But she should also be remembered as the person who almost single-handedly reshaped music-competition reality programming. Her legacy as a judge on “The Voice,” on NBC, may well turn out to be deeper and more profound than the one she’s forged in her music career.

Securing Ms. Aguilera in 2011 was a coup for a show that needed to differentiate itself from Fox’s “American Idol,” which had just signed Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez as judges. But for all their fame, Mr. Tyler and Ms. Lopez were past their fertile period as hitmakers. Ms. Aguilera, though not quite in her prime, had been in the Billboard Top 10 as recently as 2008. Of the four mentor-judges of “The Voice,” she was the one most obviously slumming it on this television gig, even though she was coming off a bumpy professional period: a flop album, “Bionic”; an awkward and sloppy rendition of the national anthem at the 2011 Super Bowl; and an arrest on a charge of public intoxication.

But Ms. Aguilera was an undeniable contemporary pop star, and her presence elevated those around her: Blake Shelton, a country star largely unknown outside that world; Adam Levine, the frontman of a popular but ineffectual band, Maroon 5; and Cee Lo Green, accidentally, and briefly, a pop star as part of Gnarls Barkley.

Broadly speaking, it’s because of Ms. Aguilera that on Sunday, after weeks of speculation, it was announced that Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, contemporary hitmakers both, would become part of the “Idol” judge panel. (They effectively replace Mr. Tyler and Ms. Lopez.) They join Mariah Carey, who signed on in July and is now the panel’s unlikely éminence grise, and Randy Jackson, the lone holdover from “Idol” 1.0.

Ms. Aguilera’s shadow also extends over “The X Factor,” the Fox competition that last week gave its new judge-mentor panel its debut: the two older male executives, L. A. Reid and Simon Cowell, remain from Season 1, but the two women, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, have been replaced by more current names: the former Disney star Demi Lovato and the former Aguilera nemesis Britney Spears. Ms. Spears had a No. 1 album last year, and Ms. Lovato has had two Top 20 singles in the last 14 months.

Christina Aguilera serves as coach on "The Voice," NBC's hit reality vocal competition series that searches for the nation's best voice.

Singer, songwriter, performer, producer, director and actress - is there anything Aguilera hasn't done? One of the most accomplished performers of the last decade, she has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, achieved four No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and has won five Grammy Awards, as well as having three top five albums in the United States. She has collaborated with other legendary artists, including Herbie Hancock, Andrea Bocelli, Tony Bennett, Sir Elton John and The Rolling Stones. Aguilera was also the only artist under 30 to make Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 100 greatest singers of all time.

This season, Christina will premiere her much-anticipated single, "Your Body," on "The Voice." In 2011, Aguilera teamed up with fellow "Voice" coach Adam Levine and Maroon 5 to record "Moves Like Jagger." The catchy dance tune went to No. 1 on the Hot 100 charts. In November 2010, she starred in her first feature film "Burlesque," opposite Cher and Stanley Tucci. She earned a Golden Globe nomination for her original song, "Bound to You," which she co-wrote and performed. Earlier that same year, Aguilera launched her album, "Bionic," which featured collaborations from artists such as Sia, Le Tigre and Ladytron as well as producers Tricky Stewart and Hill/Switch.

The New York native's trajectory - from performing in local talent shows in Pennsylvania, where she grew up, to getting her big break on "Star Search" in 1992 to landing a part on the Disney Channel's "The New Mickey Mouse Club" - is well known. It was her song, "Reflection," for Disney's "Mulan," that led to a record deal with RCA and the release of her self-titled debut album in the summer of 1999. The album quickly hit No. 1 on the strength of its first dance/pop single, "Genie in a Bottle" (which dominated the charts for five weeks and broke records worldwide) and other chart toppers including "What a Girl Wants" and "Come on Over." That eye-popping slice of eye and ear candy kept her front and center in the international spotlight even as she began to lay the groundwork for her second album, "Stripped." Released in October 2002, it sealed her status as an international superstar while transforming her image from bubble-gum pop princess to steamy sex kitten. Along with the super-heated funk of the album's provocative debut single, "Dirrty," came such standout tracks as "Beautiful," "Can't Hold Us Down" and "Voice Within."

After sweeping the top of the charts with her third album, "Back to Basics," which debuted at No. 1 in August 2006 and sold over 3.7 million worldwide, the unstoppable Aguilera announced a global tour. With the fashion legend Roberto Cavalli as the exclusive costume designer, choreographer and director Jamie King (Madonna, Janet Jackson and Prince) onboard, and a unique stage design that allowed fans unprecedented access to the pop star, the shows were a feast for all senses and earned her rave reviews.

Earning her first of four Grammys in 2000 for Best New Artist, her subsequent trophies came in 2001 for "Lady Marmalade" (Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals), in 2003 for "Beautiful" (Best Female Pop Vocal Performance) and in 2007 for "Ain't No Other Man" (Best Female Pop Vocal Performance), winning a Grammy for each of her albums. Among other honors, she is also the recipient of a 2001 Latin Grammy Award for "Mi Reflejo" (Best Female Pop Vocal Album), a 2000 Billboard Music Award for Female Artist of the Year, and two 2004 Rolling Stone Music Awards (Best Female Performer, Readers' Pick; and Best Tour, Readers' Pick, for "Justified and Stripped").

In January 2008, Aguilera gave birth to her first child, son Max Liron Bratman. [NEWS] CHRISTINA AGUILERA'S NEW ALBUM IS A REBIRTH AND IS SUPER EXPRESSIVE & VULNERABLE

Christina Aguilera is comparing her upcoming album to a “rebirth.”

With more than a decade in the music business behind her, the album will be a culmination of “everything I’ve experienced up until this point,” the 31-year-old pop star said in a recent interview.

“I’ve been through a lot since the release of my last album, being on (‘The Voice’), having had a divorce,” she said.“This is all sort of a free rebirth for me.”

Aguilera and Jordan Bratman were married for five years before she filed for divorce in 2010. They have a 4-year-old son, Max.

Her new album’s first single, “Your Body,” was produced by Max Martin, who also produced Aguilera’s last hit, the Maroon 5 smash “Moves Like Jagger,” where she was featured.

“I’m embracing many different things, but it’s all feel-good,” she said of the album’s material, including tracks that are “super expressive” and fun, with moments that are “super vulnerable.”

The new album, which is without a release date or announced title, will feature fellow “Voice” coach Cee Lo Green and comes two years after Aguilera’s lackluster “Bionic,” which has sold 310,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That album featured electronic and dance-flavored tracks as well as pop ballads; it’s her only album to not reach platinum status.

“In the fashion that I always like to put forth, it’s very self-expressive and it’s all heartfelt,” Aguilera said of her new material.

Adam Levine, Maroon 5 frontman and a “Voice” coach, told Aguilera at a recent news conference for the show that he’d heard “Your Body” and added, “I hate you because it’s so good.”

Aguilera will perform the song on NBC’s “The Voice” on Sept. 17. The show’s third season starts Sept. 10.

While he admits he had no desire to watch the first season of The Voice, Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine is thankful for his bandmate’s working relationship with Christina Aguilera which led to their collaboration on “Moves Like Jagger.”

“Working with Christina was great. We had this section in the middle that we knew would be good for a feature for somebody else to come in and sing,” Valentine said. “She was a natural choice because she was just a few feet away from Adam on The Voice and she nailed it.”

Though Maroon 5 only performed the song once with Christina, Valentine was impressed.

“She’s got such an amazing voice,” he said. “Just hearing her voice coming through my monitor speakers was insane. It’s truly a classic. We were lucky to have her on there.”

Aguilera and Maroon 5 debuted the song during a performance on the first season of The Voice. While Valentine confessed he hadn’t watched the show before, he had good reason.

“I spend so much time with Adam and so much of my life is listening to Adam’s opinions on things that I didn’t need to tune in to hear that for entertainment. That seemed more like my daily life,” he said.

It was a year of dubstep, saxophones, and Spotify, but another trend seeped into the music world. Indie and major, across all nations, saw 2011 embracing the instrument we all have inside of us--well, most of us--the whistle. Here's the top songs employing this age-old pastime of the year.

1. "Moves Like Jagger" Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera -- Ah, the whistle that we couldn't get away from in 2011. Taking their hit TV show "The Voice" to premiere track in late June, the track ended up hitting No. 1 in September and spent four non-consecutive weeks at the top. Over strumming guitars, electro-pop builds, and Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera's crooning, it was the whistle that stayed consistent throughout the track giving the other excellent moments of the song a nice centerpiece. The track is nominated for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" at the upcmoing Grammy Awards...hands down, "Jagger" takes the cake and catchiest whistle of the year.

2. "Pumped Up Kicks" Foster The People -- One of the biggest surprise hits of the year came from Foster The People. With a genre all their own, a whistle was thrown in on the bridge just to make the song a little more unique. It almost felt like FTP were giving us an easier way to sing the song to ourselves if we felt singing "you better run, better run, outrun my gun" was a little inappropriate on the sidewalk.

3. "Love Out Of Lust" Lykke Li -- Swedish darling Lykke Li crafted her folky-pop album Wounded Ryhmes around stories and confessions about moving into adulthood. "Love Out Of Lust" is a track that perfectly embodies the message of the album, and the backdrop of whistling on the chorus gives the song a mood that proves Lykke knows something the other 25 year-olds don't.

4. "Good Life" OneRepublic -- Before hitting the chorus on this OneRepublic hit, Ryan Tedder sings "Please tell me, what there's to complain about," making the carefree whistling the appropriate accompaniment to the track. This Top 10 summer smash flooded airwaves during the season making it the perfect sing-a-long for roadtrips and hikes alike from "Paris to China to Colorado."

5. "Don't Kick The Chair" Dia Frampton featuring Kid Cudi -- On this positive track taken from her debut "Red" album, Kid Cudi joins her for a quirky song that wouldn't sound out of place on the Foster The People record, making it even better than we hear some whistles as the beginning and on Kudi's verses. If she takes a look at this list, we expect this to be a future single.
