Adele, Katy, Christina Aguilera and Florence and the Machine are just some artists who are eligible to receive an Oscar nomination ahead of next year's ceremony.

'Rolling In The Deep' hitmaker Adele sung the soundtrack for the latest James Bond movie 'Skyfall', which was co-written by Adele and Paul Epworth and has been described as one of the best 007 themes in the franchise's 50-year history.

The Academy Motion Pictures will now be whittling down a list of 75 candidates to just five songs from films which have been released this year, and in addition to Adele, Katy Perry is also believed to be a song contender.

Katy's single 'Wide Awake' is reportedly being considered after it featured in the singer's autobiographical movie, 'Part of Me,' which followed the hitmaker as she embarked on her world tour last year.

Florence and The Machine are also in with a chance after the band's song 'Breath Of Life,' featured in blockbuster movie, 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' which starred Kristen Stewart.

Others in the running include Bon Jovi's Not Running Anymore,' Rick Ross' 100 Black Coffins', Arcade Fire's 'Abraham's Daughter' which can be heard in 'The Hunger Games' and Christina Aguilera's title track 'Casa De Mi Padre.'

However, it's Adele's 'Skyfall' which is expected to be the big contender, something which will no doubt be news to Daniel Craig's ears after he admitted to crying when he first the ballad.

"She has the voice and the tone that we wanted. I cried. From the opening bars I knew immediately, then the voice kicked in and it was exactly what I'd wanted. It just got better and better because it fitted the movie. In fact the more of the movie we made, the more it fitted," Daniel, who is the current Bond, told the Daily Star.

[NEWS] CHRISTINA AGUILERA REFOCUSES ON HER OWN VOICE IN 'LOTUS'

It’s been six years since Christina Aguilera made a record that would remind us why she was a perfect choice for a show called “The Voice.” For better and for worse, the NBC singing competition is what the former Mouseketeer is best known for now. Bubbling over with memorable melodies, throbbing dance grooves, and dynamic vocals, her new album, “Lotus,” is a good start in the effort to refocus attention on Aguilera’s skills and scrub our memories of 2010’s disastrous “Bionic.”

Aside from the hokey title track, it is front-loaded with goodies, including the Gloria Gaynor-meets-Depeche Mode dance of anger that is “Army of Me,” the kooky horn-and-yodel fest “Red Hot Kinda Love,” and the impossible-to-resist exhortation to “Make the World Move.” The piano ballad “Blank Page,” co-written by Aguilera, Australian singer-songwriter Sia, and Chris Braide, is among the best performances Aguilera has ever put to tape. Two of her fellow “Voice” coaches pitch in elsewhere, with Cee Lo Green helping turn up the love on “Make the World Move” and Blake Shelton helping turn down the lights on the country-inflected closer, “Just a Fool.”

There are missteps, including needless Auto-tune and a few of what sound like Rihanna or Katy Perry leftovers. And there are several tracks that sound mindlessly repetitive as sedentary listening experiences but will likely improve with the addition of a dancefloor, including the Max Martin-Shellback produced “Let There Be Love.” Welcome back, Xtina. [NEWS] IS CHRISTINA AGUILERA GONNA K.O. KATY PERRY IN FUSE'S TOP 40 OF 2012 POLL?

With Round 1 of voting coming to a close, it's looking like Christina Aguilera is going to slam Katy Perry in a tight race toward the Best Video of 2012. At least that's according to the fans, who are voting her glittertastic, man-murdering "Your Body" video ahead of Perry's Army Strong "Part of Me" clip.

If Aguilera wins, that means Katy is no longer a contender for the Best Video of 2012. California Girls: They're no match for former Mouseketeers. (Unless Katycats make "Part of Me" one of the four top-voted losing videos: Then Perry will return with vengeance as a Wild Card pick in Round 3.)

Xtina fans have gotta be happy about this. After a bit of a misstep with Bionic and Burlesque, it looks like "Your Body" and the upcoming Lotus album are poised to take The Voice coach back to a place in the pop culture pantheon just as high as her soaring pipes.

But does Aguilera's victory over Perry surprise you? After all, Katy Perry did score a whopping nine No. 1 singles in the last four years, compared to Christina's one No. 1 (the Maroon 5 collabo "Moves Like Jagger).

After Tuesday's glacial pacing and recitation of family medical histories, The Voice sped things along last night – though mostly to demonstrate that none of the contestants were choosing Team Cee Lo. While we were shown full auditions of crestfallen boy banders, there were only mere seconds of performances from a trio of young singers who actually made it onto teams. This forced viewers (and curious recappers) to iTunes or the show's site to check out what actually happened. It seems like that this'll be the new normal as winnowing the field to 64 means we'll likely be seeing around 100 auditions in the coming weeks. Here's how it panned out:

Why: Girl is just swooping up all the big, radio friendly voices. She has a strategy and is winning over most everyone she wants for Team Xtina. Every competitor under the age of 30 with a big voice grew up idolizing her, so they are geeked and eager to have her on their side. Also, she knows how to reach contestants' inner-diva with her come-to-me speeches. She directly addresses their egos, telling smooth-voiced Nigerian emigre Nelson Emokpae that she wants a full concert from him, not just his modern take on Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine." Aguilera also nabbed 15-year-old Marissa Ann, who performed a Katy Perry song in the style of Katy Perry; and picked up Lisa Scinta – a trio of powerhouses now under the Team Xtina banner.

[NEWS] BILLBOARD: 'NEW CHRISTINA AGUILERA SINGLE EXPECTED FOR AUGUST RELEASE'

It's been two years and two seasons of "The Voice" since Christina Aguilera's last studio album, but new music from the veteran pop star may be arriving before summer's end.

A source tells Billboard that Aguilera is working hard on the follow-up to 2010's "Bionic," and that a new single is expected to be released in early August. The club banger was produced by Swedish pop hit-maker Max Martin, and its chorus is built around the line, "All I want to do is what you wanted."

Martin -- best known for producing hits by Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry, among others -- has yet to helm a single for Aguilera.

London, Dec 7 (PTI) Pop stars Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera and Steven Tyler are raising money for homeless gay youngsters by donating prizes to Cyndi Lauper''s winter charity auction.

Perry has handed over an autographed Baby Taylor acoustic guitar, Aguilera is offering up two tickets to a taping of ''The Voice'' in April, and Tyler is inviting a fan to meet him on the set of American Idol, reported Contactmusic.

Money raised from the Charity Buzz auctions will benefit Lauper''s True Colors Fund, which helps young gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people suffering tough times.

Lauper, a longtime advocate for gay rights, has also donated an evening of her time - she''s promised to take her winning bidder bowling in New York City.

(Hint..Hint…think 2003) As their shocking performance ends, lights fade up on Katy Perry who is soon joined by Rihanna in singing “Hold It Against Me”. As their song ends, Nicki Minaj comes from the back of the audience wearing a ringleader outfit and singing her “World Ends” verse. As she finishes, all eyes shift to Britney who performs her song with Sabi. (Details of this will be available later)

Before Video of the Year is presented, there will be a video montage of Britney videos with excerpts of stars thanking Britney for her contributions to music including: Miley Cyrus (confirmed), Lady Gaga (confirmed), Justin Timberlake (unconfirmed), Selena Gomez (confirmed), Joe Jonas (confirmed), Will.I.Am (unconfirmed), and Christina Aguilera (unconfirmed). As the video ends, Madonna enters the stage, makes a brief statement and presents Britney the Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Through music history we have seen, fortunately, all kind of artists and singers doing their thing. Female singers have paid the price of gender inequality. Still, it never mattered at all for people like Tracy Chapman, Sinéad O'Connor or Tori Amos: all of them are brave, valuable, talented women never afraid to speak their minds.

But when it comes to sex, people have the weirdest reactions, thoughts and feelings. If you put together sex and music the thing gets hotter. Well, "hotter" if you are a man. For women it just gets harder and harder, no pun intended.

Just ask Madonna: she has taken all kind of insults, derogatory terms and even death threats only for being sexual and herself at the same time. She did use sex a lot as a form of marketing. But according to all her detractors who claimed she just "sells sex" and nothing else, her career would have ended as soon as 1994 arrived. Right?

But Ciccone evolved from being the 'sexiest' pop star to the most influential and successful woman in show biz history. Too much to say. But albums like "Ray of Light", "Like a Prayer", "True Blue", "Music" or "Confessions on a Dance Floor" speak volumes about her artistry and points of view as a woman. Nevertheless, controversy has never been away from her. Do you remember The Confessions Tour's Live To Tell on-stage performance?

There's something "bad" about queen of pop's legacy though not entirely her fault: She made believe to a whole new generation of pop stars that, by taking your clothes off and acting sexy all around you can be the greatest music star. It has worked for many: just take a look at Britney Spears, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera and even the talentless I-can't-sing-a-single-note Katy Perry.

But just a few of all these women, let's say only Christina, have understood what Madonna's game was about: it's a lot easier to show off your naked body on a video or onstage than producing an album like Ray of Light. In other words, sex was only a part of Madonna's media attack.

Samantha Fox was very sexy too, so was Sabrina Salerno or Apollonia Kotero. They showed some skin too. But none of them were able to get people questioning about themselves, life and art like Madge has. Many of her detractors have not listened to masterpieces like "Promise To Try", "Live To Tell", "X-Static Process" or "Nothing Fails". But again, does it really matter what they think?

Only time will tell who of all these new young stars stays and who disappears. And in the middle of this media fever of sexy starlets, Madonna can only smile and think... "I'm pretty much up there with Aretha, Tina, Barbra and Janis... now dare to dream!"

Time to check in with Germano Studios, whose rooms have abuzz with pop music production of late – from the radio hit-making to the avant-pop variety – hosting sessions with will.i.am, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Demi Lovato, Ne-Yo and Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor among others. Here’s what’s been going on:

Christina Aguilera was at Germano recording vocals for a duet with Maroon 5 – the song “Moves Like Jagger” – with Manny Marroquin (Kanye West, Alicia Keys) engineering. She’s also been writing and recording with producer/songwriter Sandy Vee in sessions engineered by Kevin Porter.

Vee – whose songwriting/producing credits include Katy Perry’s “Firework,” Rhianna’s “Only Girl in the World” – was also working at Germano with Disney ingenue Demi Lovato, and with pop artist/singer Dev, writing and recording new material with Porter engineering.

[NEWS] CHRISTINA TO MAKE A GUEST APPEARANCE ON AMERICAN IDOL

Editor's Note: I was not aware that Christina is going to be on American Idol this season 2010!!! How did I miss this news?!!

Katy Perry joins an illustrious list of guest judges on this season's American Idol including Mary J Blige, Shania Twain, Joe Jonas, Christina Aguilera and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.

Katy will be presiding over the final two days of auditions this week in Los Angeles alongside regular judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi as the contestants battle it out for the last few "Golden Tickets" to the second stage of the show in Hollywood.

American Idol returns in the US for its ninth season in January 2010 on FOX.
